Kampf, Anderson, Cheever to Run Grandma’s Minnesota Mile
Team USA Minnesota trio headed to Duluth for Sunday, September 9 road race
MINNEAPOLIS – (September 4, 2012) – Three Team USA Minnesota runners – Heather Kampf, Gabriele Anderson and Jamie Cheever – will compete at Grandma’s Minnesota Mile on Sunday, September 9. The women’s elite Mile starts at 10:20am in downtown Duluth. The Minnesota Mile offers a prize purse of $15,500 with $2500 to each Open race champion.
Kampf, 25, won the USA 1 Mile Road title last May and has followed that up with wins at the Ryan Shay Mile in July and the GNC Live Well Liberty Mile in August. She also finished seventh in the 800 meters at the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials in June. She has a best in the Mile of 4:30.95.
Anderson, 26, was the fourth place finisher in the 1500 meters at the U.S. Olympic Trials and since that time has set a 1500m personal record of 4:04.84. In addition, she set a PR of 4:27.94 at the Falmouth Mile in August and was runner-up at the Liberty Mile in Pittsburgh.
Steeplechase specialist Cheever will also compete at the Minnesota Mile and has a best in the distance of 4:39. Most recently she competed at the Liberty Mile where she finished eighth. Cheever, 25, was a steeplechase finalist at the U.S. Olympic Trials.
In 2011 at the Minnesota Mile, Kampf was third and Anderson finished fifth.
