In a special Memorial Day edition of the Mile Guide we prepare you for the next eight days in the calendar taking you through some good 'ol mid-west Mile fun, one big 'ol international Mile in TrackTown and Mile events right in our own back yard.
Beginning on Saturday, May 26 Vendurance out of Ventura, CA is putting on a free Night of Miles at the Buena Vista HS track and throwing in free pizza for good measure. Free Miles, free pizza; what's not to like? Then on Memorial Day, the 37th Fred d’Elia Memorial Day Ridgewood Run includes an Elite and Masters Mile race, which includes a $1000 bonus for the first runner under four and a $500 bonus for the first runner under 4:19 (Masters Men), 4:40 (Women Elite ), and 5:00 (Masters Women).
The Week's
Mile Moments
1) An Open Commentary to the Sport and Max Siegel, New USATF CEO
2) ESPN's Colin Cowherd runs a 6:11 Mile or does he?
3) Track’s Leo Manzano ready to improve on ‘08 Olympics (USA Today)

Closing out the month is the Big River Running Festival of Miles presented by Under Armour in St. Louis, MO. The first stop in the two-event Cubic Zirconia League and a BBTM Featured Event Partner, it welcomes some of the best Milers in the country and fans across the region to enjoy a fun-filled evening. With the Under Armour fan zone, a delicious BBQ put on by a local runner and entertaining races, there is something for everyone!
Then just 300 miles southeast of St. Louis in Nashiville, TN the Music City Distance Carnival takes over on Saturday, June 2 as the final stop in the Cubic Zirconia League. A second BBTM Featured Event Partner, it includes both music and carnival in its name, so it's destined to be one rocking party. Not to mention that British Olympian Anthony Whiteman is seeking to become the first Masters runner to break the four minute barrier outdoors. Whiteman ran a 1:48.28 for 800 meters a few days ago, so if you live in the area and want to witness history; this is your chance. 40 really is the new 20.
Finally, we would be remiss to not mention the Prefontaine Classic hosted at Hayward Field on June 2. The Bowerman Mile includes one of the fastest Miles in history including the current number one and two ranked in the world, Asbel Kiprop and Silas Kiplagat. The rest is a who's who of Milers, including 2011 World Bronze medalist Matthew Centrowitz debut, Olympians Bernard Lagat, Leo Manzano and Andrew Wheating, and American record holder Alan Webb.
Finally, right here in beautiful Santa Barbara, CA the Platinum Performance State Street Mile takes Milers and even their four legged friends on a fast down-hill downtown journey.
