Muir gunning for British Mile record

The Scot has already got the 1500m and 3000m national records and will be out to take the Mile mark on July 9 at the London Stadium.

Laura Muir admits she is fine form after taking 1500m and 3000m gold at the European Indoors earlier this year, and now wants to take Zola Budd's 32-year-old record, too.

"I am in the form of my life and want to make the most of it," said the 23-year-old. "With the Mile being a non-championship distance, The Muller Anniversary Games is the best possible chance I have to claim the record.

"The Mile is such an iconic event and to become the British record holder would be massive for me."

The track at the London Stadium is notoriously quick, with five world records having been set on it since it opened in 2012.

And with the World Championships set for the same stadium just a month after the Anniversary Games, Muir hopes they will be perfect preparation for the main event.
