Runner’s ultimate goal a miracle Mile

Torrey Pines High senior Tal Braude wants to join select group of only five U.S. high school boys who have run a sub-4 minute Mile

Asked where Torrey Pines High senior Tal Braude fits in among the region’s recent distance-running standouts, Falcons coach Brent Thorne reeled off names like AJ Acosta, Mac Fleet, Darren Fahy and his own Matt Carpowich.

Seriously good company.

“He fits right in with the top runners,” said Thorne. “His goal is to run a sub-4-minute Mile in track. That should tell you all you need to know.”

Only five others nationally have accomplished that feat while still in high school, but Braude is hoping a monster summer topped by a trip to Israel to compete in the Maccabiah Games and a strong cross country season will put him in position to realize that dream.

He has some unfinished business this fall.
