Jenny Simpson Defends Fifth Avenue Mile Title Saturday

Jenny Simpson, 26, the 2011 IAAF World Championships 1500 meter gold medalist in 4:05.40, will run the Fifth Avenue Mile in New York on Saturday. She won on Fifth Avenue a year ago in 4:22.3.

This winter, she was the USATF indoor champion in the 1500 and the 3000. She was third in the 1500 at the U.S. Olympic Trials in 4:05.17, but 12th and last in her London Olympic semi-final in 4:06.89. She holds the American 3000 meter steeplechase record of 9:12.50 and was a three-time NCAA champion in that event for the University of Colorado. Originally from Florida, Simpson now trains at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs with coach Juli Benson.
