April 13-15 Mile Guide

April 13, 2012

By Bring Back the Mile

First up this Saturday will be the Furman Blue Shoes Mile at high noon in Furman, SC. A lot of men are looking to break the magical four minute barrier for the first time, including ZAP Fitness' Michael Crouch and Landon Peacock.

Then for you west coasters, UCLA is hosting the Rafer Johnson / Jackie Joyner Kersee Invite. The Bob Day Mile, set for 1:53pm, is named after one of the Bruins' most celebrated athletes. Day helped lead the squad to a national championship in 1966, was a 1968 Olympian, and held national records from 1500 to 5000 meters, including his 3:56.4 Mile personal record. He passed away in March and is survived by his wife, Jenny; and daughters Dava Voss and Amanda Day.

To wrap things up this wekend, the Boston Marathon ain't the only show in town this weekend. The Boston Athletic Association hosts the B.A.A. Mile with a stellar field of entrants including the Scholastic Invitational Mile and the Professional Invitational Mile. The Women's field includes Mammoth TC's Morgan Uceny, the 2012 USA 1500 meter champion and #1 ranked athlete in the world at the same distance. On the Men's side, Austin TC's Kyle Miller and Team USA Arizona's Ben Bruce will vie for a portion of the $12,000 total prize purse.

This weekend kicks off a flurry of Miles as we look toward some of the countries top Invitationals and Mile races over the next two weeks. For a complete list of races, visit Bring Back the Mile's Calendar
