The Elmhurst Twilight Mile is held on the same day and the same course as the Illinois State Championship bike race, the Elmhurst Cycling Classic. Runners will be cheered on by the crowds as they circle scenic Elmhurst University, 15 miles west of Chicago. The neighborhood is lined with parties and fans who cheer on the athletes all day. The finish line is at The Wilder Mansion which hosts a band and the Phase Three Brewing Beer Garden.
Powered by The Elmhurst Running Club and CK Running, this event is an opportunity for middle distance and short distance runners to go for a PR in the Mile on a closed, exciting circuit around scenic Elmhurst University. All runners are welcome, but should be able to run the course in 13 minutes or less.
At the second edition, there are three heats: Open, Elite Women & Men with $2000 in prize money for the Elite heats ($300, $250, $200, $150 & $100) plus $100 bonus money for a course record and for sub-4 (men) & sub-4:30 (women).
The USATF-certified course is a relatively flat, near loop Mile around Elmhurst University, with a long, gentle downhill leading to the loud and exciting “Chicane”, a fan-packed sweeping section, and the final turn up a gentle rise on Prospect that will surely test the legs before the runners kick to the flat finish. The finish is right in front of the largest crowds at the event’s epicenter, The Wilder Mansion Beer Garden and finish line arena.
Elmhurst has a rich running culture and the Twilight Mile enables athletes coming off track season to go for a PR and prize money. Bring the family, because after the run is a free Fun Ride on the course while a rock band plays and the neighborhood cheers you on.
The entire day is a fundraiser for people in need and the charities that serve them. We are giving back to athletes and to our communities. When you race with us, you are making a difference in someone's life!
