Debut event draws Mile Maniacs to Danish-centric California community

SOLVANG, Calif. – (October 6, 2012) – Perfect race temperatures and a warm Danish community greeted the elite Men's Mile field toeing the line at The Solvang Mile on Saturday morning. At the inaugural road race, Silas Kisorio, 28, of Oklahoma City, OK used a late surge in the last 200 meters to take the win in 4 minutes, 11.65 seconds and pocket the $1000 champion's prize.
The recent Oklahoma Christian graduate, where he compiled 13 NAIA national titles, out sprinted local Santa Barbara Miler Tommy Schmitz as well as adidas / Team USA Arizona member Ben Bruce who moved down from his traditional 3000m Steeplechase race.

Bring Back the Mile is a national campaign to establish the Mile (as opposed to 1500 meters) as the preferred middle-distance running event. The four-minute Mile is still a gold standard among athletic achievements. Several men will take a shot at it on Saturday morning, October 6, in the inaugural Solvang Mile.
The race will be run on a certified loop around the picturesque town, starting and finishing on Copenhagen Drive. Recreational runners will start the Solvang Mile shortly after 7 a.m., building up to the elite men’s race at 8:30.

Registration is still open as the final details are being ironed out for the Solvang Mile, a fun run through the streets of Solvang that will take place Saturday, Oct. 6.
The race, which organizers are hoping becomes an annual event, will begin and end on Copenhagen Street as athletes of all ages and skill levels chase their fastest Mile.

October 6 road race features age group heats leading to the Elite Men’s Mile and the sub-4 minute Mile quest
SOLVANG, Calif. – (September 25, 2012) – On Saturday, October 6, the streets of Solvang, California are going to be packed with athletes of all ages and abilities chasing their fastest times at the inaugural Solvang Mile. Located on Copenhagen Street in beautiful downtown Solvang, the start and finish line will be filled with personal bests and tons of cheers. The morning will begin with age group races, giving everybody an opportunity to run their fastest Mile. The age group heats will be followed by the fast action of the Men's and Women's Open Mile as well as the joy of the Fun Mile. All the Mile events in the morning will lead up to the main event, the Elite Men's Mile.

SOLVANG, Calif - Alex Kehaya, as evidenced by his many coaching duties alongside his job as a Spanish teacher at Dunn Academy, has always had a passion for fitness and exercise.
This October, Kehaya will look to spread that fervor and inject his zeal for healthy living into downtown Solvang.
Kehaya is the director for the inaugural Solvang Mile, a 1-Mile foot race scheduled for Oct. 6 in the heart of Solvang. The race, which he hopes will become a yearly fixture, will be the centerpiece of a family-friendly festival that will take place throughout the day at Solvang Park.
