MARION — Josh Evans set an all-time Iowa best in the Mile run Saturday, clocking in at 4:04.38 in the adidas Dream Mile in New York City.

Evans finished fourth in the national event.

The old record was 4:07.20, set by Ed DeLashmutt of Fort Madison in 1976. IHSAA official Bud Legg said Monday that Evans’ mark stands, even though the Mile is an event no longer contested in Iowa.

Evans also holds the all-time Iowa best in the 1600 meters (4:06.32), set at the state meet. The Linn-Mar graduate will run at Iowa State.

Stephanie Jenks, who just concluded her sophomore year at Linn-Mar, was second in the girls’ race in 4:42.68.
