Panthers prepare for Market Street Mile

In The Street will kick off this year with the 30th Market Street Mile, one of Frederick’s flattest, fastest road races.
Among the runners at the Saturday, September 14 event will be a pack of Panthers — 20 students from the Panthers Running Club at Lincoln Elementary School.
The Mile race will be the crowning achievement for the children. Club adviser Anne Light said they have worked hard to reach this point.
“They went from not even crossing the parking lot to finishing a Mile and encouraging each other and clapping and cheering,” Light said. “Every one of us is standing there with our jaw down, going ‘wow.’”
The group was founded last school year to improve the children’s health and fitness and show that “there’s something outdoors that they can do by themselves” at no cost, Light said.
