The 16th HOKA ONE ONE State Street Mile was held in beautiful downtown Santa Barbara, California on Sunday, June 7, 2015. This unique event features a fast, gradual downhill, point-to-point course with something for everyone and every dog who runs, walks or jogs. Events include the Family Fun Mile, a Dog Mile, seven (7) age group categories and an Open and Masters elite Miles for the serious, competitive runner. Awards will be given in every category. On race day, registration and bib number pick up begins at 7:00am at Pedregosa and State Streets in Santa Barbara, and the first heat starts at 8:00am. The race finishes at State and De La Guerra Streets.

All proceeds go directly to the District Attorney’s Victim-Witness Assistance Program’s Crime Victim Emergency Fund.

For 2015, the guaranteed prize purse totaled $5700 (Open = $1000, $750, $500 and $250 and Masters age-graded = $175, $100, $75) plus $1000 Open course record bonus (3:49 men and 4:33 women).

It's not easy being the Edhat Dog.

There's the fame that comes with being on all those splash pages, the pressure of picking the winners of important Edhat contests like March Edness. And of course, the constant training I have to do to be in shape for the annual State Street Dog Mile.

It's possible that this year I over trained for the State Street Mile. And certainly, though my carbo-loading the night before was perfect, my head wasn't in the right place before the race. Instead of staying calm and collected, I barked and pranced. I was anxious to avenge my leash-losing performance from 2009. Even though I came in first last year, my handler was left far behind.
