Mudd Makes Breakthrough with Sub-4-Minute Mile

Center Grove's Austin Mudd ended his 2011 track season spectacularly. In 23 days in June, he won five major races in four states, set state records at four distances and broke Indiana high school marks that had stood since the 1970s.
However, he concluded 2012 by finishing a distant 11th in his 1500 meter semifinal in the World Junior Championships at Barcelona. On Saturday, the Wisconsin sophomore made that a distant memory.
Mudd, 19, became the youngest Hoosier to run a sub-4-minute Mile, clocking 3 minutes, 59.33 seconds to win the indoor Meyo Invitational on Notre Dame's 352-yard oval.
