Washington state Cross Country champion began with the Mile

"I remember back in elementary school always being the one kid that wanted to run the Mile, everyone else was dreading it, but I was like yeah, the Mile."

Fifteen-year-old Taylor Roe from Kamiak High School loves to run.

"I remember back in elementary school always being the one kid that wanted to run the Mile, everyone else was dreading it, but I was like yeah, the Mile," Taylor said. "I'm a competitive person, so I love the competitive aspect of running."

Roe would first beat the boys at school and then the best runners in the nation.

In 2012, Taylor won the 11-12 year old U.S. junior national championship, in 2014 a second national title.

As an 8th grader she qualified to compete against college runners at the USATF Junior Track and Field Championships in Eugene.

"You've got to want it, or it's not going to work out for you," Taylor said.
