Top athletes race at Furman’s track on Saturday

Across the nation, there’s a call to arms — uh, legs — to bring back the Mile.
The movement, videos and a web ite (BringBackTheMile.com) led to new Mile races. Older races are being revitalized, and odd distances — 1500 meters, or worse, 1600 meters — that had come into vogue to supplant the traditional Mile are being replaced.
Furman University was ahead of this change back in 2007 when it launched the Blue Shoes Mile. On Saturday, the school hosts the sixth annual showcase of elite Milers that has boasted several sub-4 minute Miles in its history. The race begins at noon and serves as a transition between the annual Furman Invitational’s high school track & field events in the morning and the college events in the afternoon.
