The Mile race at this year’s Cork City Sports is shaping up to be the event of the meet, with Cork’s own Ciarán ó Lionáird taking on American Ben True, who was the leading non-African finisher at this year’s IAAF World Cross Country Championships.

The star-studded field will also include Jordan McNamara (USA), Liam Boylan-Pett (USA), Bartosz Nowicki (Poland) and James Kaan (Australia) along with local athletes Mark Hanrahan, Paul Robinson, Eoin Everard and current schools’ champion Sean Tobin.

“All the athletes can run an under four-minute Mile and it will be the race to watch at this year’s event,” outlined Cork City Sports chairman Tony O’Connell.

He added the 62nd Cork City Sports International, which will take place at Cork Institute of Technology on Tuesday, July 2 is among the biggest in the event’s history.

“It’s a premiere event,” he said, stating that if the weather stays fine, national records could be made on the day. “The City Sports are a month before the Moscow World Championships in August so anything is possible."
