Eugene’s Lauren Johnson gets her World Championships qualifier in Belgium

Johnson had provisionally qualified for the World Championships in last month's USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, but had not achieved the minimum qualifying standard.

Lauren Johnson of Eugene-based Oregon Track Club Elite nailed down her spot on Team USA for the World Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a fast 1500 meters Saturday in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium.
Beatrice Chepkoech won the race in 4 minutes, 3.28 seconds. Johnson was second in 4 minutes, 4.17 seconds.
Johnson's time bettered the World Championships qualifying time of 4:06.50.
She provisionally had qualified for the World Championships in last month's USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, but had not achieved the minimum qualifying standard.
