Heather Kampf embraces the Mile
Bring Back the Mile Grand Prix Tour 2014 champion: "my future lies" as a Miler

When Heather Kampf (née Dorniden) ran at Minnesota under coach Gary Wilson, she was a true 800 runner, strong enough to win the 2006 NCAA Indoor. “That was definitely my main event,” she says. “I did the Mile or 1500 at Big 10 meets because that was a way to earn more points.
“My coach always said that I looked like a deer in the headlights. I would be out there sort of dazed for the first 2.5 laps, and then, when I could smell the finish, that’s when I would start doing my kick in.”
So while she has always dabbled in the Mile, 2014 marked the first year that she started to really think of herself as a Miler. She ran in the 1500 at the World Indoors, she captured her second straight USA road Mile title, and she won Bring Back the Mile’s inaugural Mile series. Outdoors on the track she brought her 1500 PR to 4:07.15 and placed sixth at the USA Outdoors in Sacramento.
