2012 Morton Games Recap & Results

Will Leer leads ten men under four minutes in Morton Mile; Nicole Schappert surprises in Women's International Mile setting meet record.

Men's Morton Mile

David Torrence was initially ruled the winner of the Morton Mile but a closer examination of the photo finish awarded the win to Will Leer in 3.56.39, just one-hundredth ahead of Torrence. Aussie Olympian Ryan Gregson was third with American Craig Miller fourth. NC State's Ryan Hill continued his stellar European season with a fifth place finish and new personal best of 3.56.78. A total of 10 men broke the four minute barrier.

Women's International Mile

New Jersey-New York Track Club's Nicole Schappert earned the win in the women's mile in a meet record 4:30.65. She defeated a number of athletes headed to the Olympic Games including Australia's Zoe Buckman (2nd, 4:30.86) and Gen LaCaze (3rd, 4:32.19) and U.S. steeplechasers Emma Coburn (5th, 4:33.24) and Shalaya Kipp (10th, 4:40.31).
