The college recruiting chase to land Mary Cain’s fast-moving legs has ended. The 17-year-old track phenomenon from Bronxville is skipping a run in college and has decided to go pro.
PACE Sports Management, which is based in England and represents the world's fastest human, Usain Bolt among other track and field standouts, announced Friday that it has added Cain to its client list. The Bronxville High senior has signed with one of PACE’s directors, Ricky Simms, to be her agent.
“For the past couple of months, my family and I have been debating whether I should compete at a collegiate or professional level going forward,” Cain said in a statement released by the management firm. “I have decided, and am truly excited to announce, that I will be turning pro.”
“I believe that, in the long run, this is the best way for me to continue to develop as an athlete,” said Cain.
The runner still will become a college student, although the specific college wasn’t announced.
