PITTSBURGH – Downtown Pittsburgh’s only night time road race will bring runners back downtown for a “night at the races” on Friday, July 23, 2021. The Fleet Feet Liberty Mile includes recreational, competitive and professional heats. The race has been annually recognized as one of the “The 35 Most Iconic American Races” by Runner’s World and was on BibRave’s list of Top 20 10 Miles-or-less races in the country in 2020.
“The spirit of this race lived on in a virtual format last year,” said Bob Shooer, owner of Fleet Feet Pittsburgh. “We saw participants of all ages and abilities share their Mile on social media which makes this year’s event that much more special to us. We cannot wait to witness their triumph this summer on the downtown Pittsburgh course.”
The USATF-certified, U-shaped course starts on Penn Avenue in the heart of the Cultural District. Racers then make a turn onto 11th Street and another quick turn onto Liberty Avenue for the final stretch.
P3R continues to work with UPMC Sports Medicine and the City of Pittsburgh to ensure that the event will follow all COVID-19 regulations and CDC guidelines that apply at the time of the event to ensure participants’ safety.
“This is the first start line since 2019 that we will see runners in-person,” said Troy Schooley, P3R CEO. “We know runners are ready to be back at a start line, and we are excited to see them as we prepare for a safe return to in-person racing with this iconic national event.”
This year, runners are able to register at one of three levels: Red, White or Blue, ranging in price from $20 to $35. The Blue level perks include a race day shirt, finisher’s medal and customizable bib just like the pros receive.
This event is the second stop on the 2021 #RUNwithP3R Challenge. Runners who complete a DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon event, the Fleet Feet Liberty Mile and the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler in 2021 will earn a bonus medal.
