Run a Mile to remember Bannister’s feat

Sheffield running club Smiley Paces is organizing a Festival of Miles to mark the 60th anniversary of Roger Bannister breaking the 4 minute Mile barrier for the first time.
The club are staging a number of Mile races at Woodbourn Road on Tuesday, May 6 to cater for different age groups and standards.
It is being organised for the club by Jenny Chambers, first woman home in the first (full) Sheffield Marathon in 1982 who will run the city’s Half Marathon on Sunday for the 16th time.
Jenny ran for the then Sheffield AC but later joined Hallamshire Harriers and for the last five years has been involved with Smiley Paces.
She said: “Basically we are a group of women who got together in the school playground when taking our children."
