PITTSBURGH – The Fleet Feet Liberty Mile, downtown Pittsburgh’s only nighttime road race, will return on Friday, July 24. The “night at the races” brings friends and families together to celebrate fitness through Mile races for recreational, competitive and professional runners. Attracting first-time runners to some of America’s fastest runners, the race has been consistently recognized as one of the “The 35 Most Iconic American Races” by Runner’s World and was on BibRave’s list of Top 25 10-Miles-or-Less races in the country in 2019.

“The passion behind this race is what makes it truly incredible,” said Bob Shooer, owner of Fleet Feet Pittsburgh. “There are runners of all ages and abilities in the heart of downtown bringing their love for the sport to life and we are thrilled to be such a big part of bringing this experience to runners and the spectators.”

The USATF-certified, U-shaped course starts on Penn Avenue in the heart of the Cultural District. Racers then make a turn onto 11th Street, and another quick turn onto Liberty Avenue for the final stretch. The start and finish lines are only a block apart, so spectators can catch both the beginning and the end. After the masses finish, runners and spectators can watch some of the fastest American Milers battle it out for the $28,000 prize purse.

Last year, 2017 race champion Emily Lipari and defending men's champ Robert Domanic put on closing bursts to edge their respective fields, clocking 4 minutes, 34 seconds and 4:08, respectively.

“This Mile road race gives participants the unique opportunity to feel the excitement of running down Liberty Avenue at nighttime and then watching the country’s top Milers race to the finish line,” said Troy Schooley, P3R CEO. “No matter one’s age or ability, this is an ideal fitness distance for everyone and can challenge everyone in a different way."

Perks for Fleet Feet Liberty Mile participants include:
►Men’s or women’s finisher’s shirt
►Access to a closed, USATF-certified course
►Pre- and post-race festivities
►Chip-time with instant online results
►Virtual goodie bag email with exclusive deals and promotions for race participants

Registration is $15 for the first week only and then prices will increase. The 9th event edition is the second stop on the 2020 #RUNwithP3R Challenge. Runners who complete a DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon event, the Fleet Feet Liberty Mile and the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler in 2020 will earn a bonus medal.
