Brief Chat: Morgan Uceny’s Fast 1500s

Morgan Uceny enters the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials with the year's fastest American time in the women's 1500 by 4 seconds, a 4:01.59 for fourth place in Rome. In 2011, Uceny was the USATF champion in the 1500, had the fastest 1500 time in the world, a 4:00.06, and was ranked #1 in the world in the event. Her one big disappointment came in the World Championships final in Daegu; she was knocked down and finished tenth. Uceny, who has a personal best of 1:58.37 for 800 meters, is a member of the California-based Mammoth Track Club, coached by Terrence Mahon. The Cornell grad was sixth in the 800 and fourth in the 1500 at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials. She began running cross country in sixth grade in Indiana "because there was no basketball."
