In the women’s race at the 5th edition, Emily Lipari, Shannon Osika and Julie-Anne Staehli waged a back-and-forth battle on Pennsylvania Avenue, and Lipari produced the better closing sprint just holding off Osika, both timed in 4:33, to shatter the course record by 5 seconds; Staehli was third (4:34). The 2017-18 Tour champion also pocketed $3500 including a $500 course record bonus.

"Being here is exciting," Lipari, 26, from Poulsbo, WA said to The Washington Post after running in her first Navy Mile. "The person I'm marrying is actually in the Navy so, it was really special to do well."
