Part of the Hilton Garden Innvitational, the Camel City Indoor Mile is limited to 12 individuals, all of whom will either have a prior sub-4:00 Mile to their credit, or be on the cusp of breaking the illusive barrier. The Camel City Indoor Mile was the first stop on the inaugural Bring Back the Mile Grand Prix Tour 2014.

JDL Fast Track has set aside more than $7500 in potential prize money to professionals for this USATF‐sanctioned event. Additionally, JDL Fast Track has additional funds available to set up hotel and airfare reservations for select individuals.

MEN PRIZE PURSE

  • 1st Place Professional: $1500 (Men) / $2000 (Women)
  • 2nd Place Professional: $750 (Men) / $1000 (Women)
  • 3rd Place Professional: $375 (Men) / $500 (Women)

Additional time bonuses of $500 will be paid to any of the top three professionals in the Men's race who break 4:00.00.

Camel City Elite Fields Set For February 1

Elite Fields in Men’s and Women’s 800, Mile and 3000; headlined by Nick Symmonds

WINSTON‐SALEM, N.C. – Nick Symmonds will headline the Camel City Elite races to be held at JDL Fast Track on Saturday, February 1, 2014, as part of the Hilton Garden Innvitational. With assistance from the Camel City Crowd Fund, JDL Fast Track will be awarding nearly $23,000 in prize money, time bonuses and rabbit fees in six races – men’s and women’s 800m, Mile and 3000m.

The Camel City Indoor Mile races are also the first stop on the inaugural Bring Back the Mile Grand Prix Tour 2014.

A member of the inaugural 2013 BBTM Tour, JDL Fast Track has expanded its professional athlete development program for its 2014 season. World Championships gold medalist David Oliver is set to host the David Oliver High School Classic on January 24-25 and the following week welcomes World Championships 800m silver medalist Nick Symmonds to the Hilton Garden Innvitational on Saturday, February 1. Symmonds, who just announced Brooks as his new sponsor, will open his 2014 campaign in the 800 meters. In addition to the Men's Camel City Mile on February 1, JDL Fast Track has added a Camel City Women's Mile as well as professional 800m and 3000m races.

New in 2014, the event is adding a women’s edition of the Camel City Indoor Mile. In February 2013, three Milers went under the magical 4 minute barrier, led by Cory Leslie’s 3:57.81 clocking, a North Carolina State indoor record.

Highlights of national promotional tour of iconic distance include thrilling races and numerous meet, U.S. Junior, NCAA, course and State records; $120,000 awarded to top Milers

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – (September 12, 2013) – The inaugural Bring Back the Mile Tour 2013, showcasing 14 events nationwide, produced exciting Mile racing throughout the year including the Tour finale at the Minnesota Mile on Sunday, September 8 where Americans Ben Blankenship and Gabriele Anderson shattered course records, clocking 3 minutes, 52.7 seconds and 4:21.3, respectively, and running the fastest Miles ever in Minnesota. Bring Back the Mile (BBTM), launched in January 2012, is a national campaign to elevate and celebrate the iconic distance.

JDL Fast Track Bringing Back the Mile (and Bringing the Talent)

First, the were elite high school Mile races at the NCRunners Elite Holiday Invitational.  Next comes the Camel City Indoor Mile, scheduled for February 2nd as part of the Hilton Garden Invitational.  Is this an intentional pattern of running the Mile instead of the 1600 meters at the JDL Fast Track, or is it just a novelty?  According to Craig Longhurst, the director of the facility, the use of the classic English and American race distance is no accident.  In addition to bringing top-notch talent to the JDL, Longhurst feels some affinity for the "Bring Back the Mile" movement, which is growing in strength across the country.
